Tough Cookie

No event emphasised the robust construction and all round ability of the Ferrari 250 GTO like the Tour de France, a week long feat of endurance which mixed circuit races, hillclimbs and tortuous road sections. 250 GTO 5111GT had won the TDF in 1963 in the hands of Jean Guichet and Jose Behra. In '64 Guichet shared the same car with Michel de Bourbon- Parme, the pairing taking 2nd place overall in spite of the bodywork taking a significant battering en route. They were clearly very tough cars to keep going despite big these impacts. Here it leads the Porsche 904 of Buchet and Linge across the scenic but treacherous Col d' Aubisque in the Pyrenees.
